Welcome to my little corner of cyberspace.
I was born and raised in New Orleans, and then spent a chunk of time in Los Angeles – only to return to my beloved New Orleans in the summer of 2019.
My love for acting started early, and almost as an act of rebellion. The daughter of a musician, I’d studied music nearly all my life. My piano teacher wanted – possibly expected – me to attend the big arts high school, the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts, for music. I knew this wasn’t something I actually wanted to pursue beyond just the enjoyment of it … but I dutifully took the information booklet home. And immediately flipped to the theatre department and read up on it – what was required to apply and audition, and what the three years would consist of. Voice and speech. Movement. Dance. Shakespeare. Monologues, scene study, theatre history, mime and clown skills…
It did not matter that I’d never done any of those things. I just knew it was what I wanted.
I studied there, I got my degree at the University of New Orleans, and then I did a lot of theatre in New Orleans. A lot. I worked constantly – community theatre, dinner theatre, semi-professional theatre …whatever I could get. And getting an agent, and auditioning (and booking!). Oh yeah, and working a full-time day-job. And I admit it – I considered my day job the career and my acting the hobby.
Until one day …it all just clicked. Or maybe snapped? In any case, I knew I had it backwards.
I fully committed to the idea of moving to New York … and then got seduced by SoCal weather (and all my college friends who were already out in LA) and changed my mind.
And then, after some time, I boomeranged (can I use that as a verb?) back home. Here I am, back in New Orleans, reacquainting myself with old friends, fried food, crazy weather, massive potholes, and so much more.
